Ranking Arrangement is an important topic from the point of view of many competitive exams. In Ordering and Ranking arrangement questions, position/rank of a person from left-right/top-bottom of a row/class is to be determined or rank/position is given & total no. of persons is to be calculated. You may also be asked to determine, using data given, which floor which person lives on.
1.How many number are there between n and m.
Formula : m - n -1
Eg: How many numbers are there between 10 and 90.
90 -10-1 = 79
2.Total Number of students = m ,
Position from left of a particular student = n
Then position from right of particular student = (m+1)-n
Eg: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z.
Position of y from Right=2
Then position of y from left = (26+1) – 2 =25
Q1. Mohan ranks 8th from the left and 25th from the right in a class. How many students are there in the class?
A) 32 B) 33 C) 34 D) 31
SOLUTION:
The given data is
Mohan’s Rank from Left end = 8
Mohan’s Rank from Right end = 25
We know that
T = L + R – 1
Where T = Total number of persons
L = Position from Left / Front / Upside / Top / First
R = Position from Right / Back / Down / Bottom / Last
Therefore, Number of students in the class (T) = 8 + 25 – 1 = 32
ANSWER: A
